These complex microbial communities and unique ecosystems can impact a broad range of disorders both inside and outside of the gut including: Colitis, SIBO, Bacterial Vaginosis, arthritis and cognitive dysfunctions to name just a few.  Dietary choices play a big role in altering the makeup of these important microbial communities as do supplementation and herbs.
